Welcome to Ukarumpa!
Ukarumpa
In the midst of the Eastern Highlands, located at the end of the Aiyura valley, lies Ukarumpa, one of the most fascinating places in Papua New Guinea. Ukarumpa is the base of SIL PNG, which is a national branch of SIL International. It is also home to an international community of roughly 600 people (including children) representing no less than 18 different nationalities, who all share the same vision and mission:
- Vision: we long to see the people of Papua New Guinea flourishing in community using the languages they value most.
- Mission: inspired by God’s love, we advocate, build capacity, and work with local communities in Papua New Guinea to apply language expertise that advances meaningful development, education, and engagement with Scripture.
All people in Ukarumpa, both paid PNG citizens and volunteer expats, are either directly or indirectly involved in Bible Translation, language development, literacy, training and advancing Scripture use.
Watch the beautiful performances of self-made biblical songs
in six different vernacular languages of Papua New Guinea:
Ese, Korafe, Kunimaipa, Petats, Saposa and Somba-Siawari.
The songs are composed as a response to reading, studying and translating the song of Moses in Exodus 15 at the Training Centre in Ukarumpa.
